Basis

Basis

Basis is a New York-based AI platform built for accounting firms. Its autonomous agents work under a professional's direction across multi-step accounting, tax and audit workflows, learning a client's specific requirements rather than following a fixed template, and the company says firms using it see 20 to 50 per cent efficiency gains. It was founded in 2023 by Matthew Harpe and Mitchell Troyanovsky, raised a $3.6 million seed led by Better Tomorrow Ventures and a $34 million Series A led by Khosla Ventures, and in February 2026 raised $100 million at a $1.15 billion valuation led by Accel alongside GV. It says it serves around seven of the 25 largest US accounting firms. It is a different company from Basis the 2018 algorithmic stablecoin project, with which this record was conflated until 2026-09-01.
