VIA Pharmaceuticals

VIA Pharmaceuticals was a San Francisco drug developer, founded in 2004, that worked on small-molecule compounds for cardiovascular and metabolic disease. Its lead candidate VIA-2291, a 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor aimed at inflammation in atherosclerotic plaque, completed Phase 2; it also held VIA-3196, a liver-directed thyroid hormone receptor beta agonist for dyslipidemia, and a preclinical DGAT1 inhibitor programme for type 2 diabetes. It became public in 2007 through a reverse merger with Corautus Genetics, cut its staff to six in 2010 and deregistered from the SEC in March 2011.
